I was not surprised to see that the town or the fort for that matter is not actually in the game. I think the alpha was in May and the game release in August? That just felt very, very peculiar.
That's one reason I got so surprised that they "only" had a few months before the release of the game. The npcs talks about it all the time and gives the player the impression that's where you're going. When I played the alpha, I came into the game thinking that there would be a town.
